The recently concluded IFAT Africa 2023, organized by Messe München India and Messe München GmbH, made an impressive comeback in Midrand after a four-year hiatus due to the pandemic lockdown. With around 4,500 representatives and visitors from the environmental technology sector and 125 exhibitors, the event proved to be a much-awaited platform for innovations, trends, challenges and solutions.

The co-location of IFAT Africa 2023 with analytica Lab Africa, the South African trade fair for analysis, laboratory technology and biotechnology, further enhanced the event's significance. Both exhibitions combined attracted around 6,000 visitors and brought together leading brands for networking, knowledge sharing and solution discovery.

One of the significant highlights of IFAT Africa 2023 was its focus on addressing the pressing environmental challenges faced by South Africa and the broader Sub-Saharan region. Water scarcity, waste management and pollution are among the critical issues that require urgent attention and innovative solutions. The supporting program encompassed a range of discussions and sessions on managing urban wastewater, innovative practices, new technologies and the crucial role of women in the water sector. These sessions shed light on the importance of sustainable water and waste management practices in safeguarding the region's natural resources and promoting a circular economy.

The SWISS Pavilion, organized by Swissenviro GmbH, played a crucial role in showcasing environmentally sustainable solutions to address these challenges. Co-exhibitors such as KROFTA SAGL, Keller Druckmesstechnik AG, SID SA, Villiger Entsorgungssysteme and Hofstetter Gastechnik brought their expertise and cutting-edge technologies to the pavilion, contributing to the diverse showcase of environmental solutions. Their presence not only enriched the pavilion but also fostered meaningful collaborations and knowledge exchange among industry professionals.

In addition to the success of IFAT Africa 2023, the SWISS Pavilion also had the privilege of participating in a unique side-event organized by the Swiss Business Hub Southern Africa, Switzerland Global Enterprise and the Embassy of Switzerland in South Africa, in collaboration with the Norwegian Embassy in South Africa. During the event, diverse delegations gathered to showcase the pioneering companies at the forefront of environmental solutions from both Switzerland and Norway. The event brought together 40 participants and was graced by the presence of the Ambassador of the Royal Embassy of Norway, Mr. Gjermund Sæther, as well as the Deputy Head of the Embassy of Switzerland, Mr. Marino Cuenat. Their participation underscored Switzerland's and Norway's unwavering dedication to driving sustainable progress in the region.

As part of the Swiss Business Hub Southern Africa's mission to foster collaboration and forge meaningful partnerships in Africa, this joint event perfectly embodied the essence of IFAT Africa 2023 – a prestigious platform showcasing environmental technologies and fostering international collaboration. It was an honor for the SWISS Pavilion to be a part of this meaningful occasion and to contribute to the efforts aimed at addressing Africa's pressing environmental challenges through cleantech innovations.

The success of IFAT Africa 2023 reaffirmed the importance of live events in the sector. The feedback from exhibitors and stakeholders underlined the event's potential and significance for the African market and the entire sub-Saharan region. The show also hosted the African Water and Sanitation Association (AfWASA) Annual General Meeting, bringing together representatives from all over Sub-Sahara Africa.

In conclusion, the SWISS Pavilion's participation at IFAT Africa 2023 was highly successful. The engaging booth design, coupled with the excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail from the stand construction partner, made a lasting impression on exhibitors and visitors alike. The event provided an invaluable platform for networking, exploring solutions and staying updated with industry developments. We extend our gratitude to the fair organizers, our co-exhibitors and visitors of the SWISS Pavilion for contributing to the success of our participation at IFAT Africa 2023.
